Today is the eighth day of the 12 Days of Anime, and who would have thought that I would find an anime series about ballroom dancing enjoyable. The amount of times I have been surprised by my taste this year alone is staggering. Nonetheless, Welcome to the Ballroom has definitely been one of the better series of the year.
Not many shows end with their strongest episode, but I can happily say that in this case, Ballroom differentiates itself from the norm. The final episode of the series was far and away the best of its 24 episodes.
Animation-wise, the series never stood out as anything amazing. That being said, the choreography of the final episode was noticeably better than the rest of the show. The red petal scene, as shown above, and the way their silhouettes danced around was beautiful.
What really got me was the music they played during the last dance of the finals. It was amazing; I searched high and low but sadly couldn’t find the song name. The kind of “overview” they gave of all the characters cheering for Tatara was also nice. The cast throughout the show was considerably large, but it was handled well. Finally, Kugimiya’s coming to terms with dance and his acceptance of defeat at the hands of Tatara was a great way to end his arc.
Overall, I am extremely glad that I watched Welcome to the Ballroom. Between this show and last year’s Yuri on Ice, I thing that sports anime is now something I will watch regularly. I had never really been interested in the genre previously, but it’s time to take that next step.
What did you think about this series? If you have seen it, what was your favorite scene? Also, be sure to let me know if you are participating in the 12 Days of Anime! I would love to read more posts from fellow anime bloggers.
