It’s now day two of the 12 Days of Anime, and today’s moment comes from Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale. Haters will click away from this post immediately, but for those who aren’t that shallow, please continue reading.
For someone who was basically introduced to the world of anime through Sword Art Online, any sequel that comes from this franchise will always hold a spot in my heart. That being said, Ordinal Scale was a cut above the rest of the series for many reasons.
The first reason I had to pick this part of the movie, in particular, was the animation. Sword Art Online is not a badly animated series, to begin with. But watching this fight for the first time, in comparison to the rest of the movie, you already know this is where most of the budget went. The colors were vivid, the movement was fluid, the sword and other weapon skills were extravagant. It was easily the best animation the franchise has seen yet.
Now what, might you ask, could make a scene even better than fluid animation? How about pairing that animation with loud, crisp sound effects and a thrilling musical score. Throughout the battle, they play multiple original soundtracks, some of which are from back in Aincrad.
To top it all off, I loved how Yuuki made a cameo when Asuna used her Mother’s Rosario sword skill. The movie was already good by regular standards don’t get me wrong. But the nostalgia that this movie brought me specifically made it something truly special.
What did you think about this film? If you have seen it, what was your favorite scene? Also, be sure to let me know if you are participating in the 12 Days of Anime! I would love to read more posts from fellow anime bloggers.
